A Day with a Friend

On Friday I babysat for a friend because their usual sitter was unavailable and they both had to work. I've never watched another child with my own but I was up for the adventure.

About 10am Jen dropped of Miss Fiona and the fun began. As soon as Jen left both babies started crying. Fiona didn't want her mommy to leave and Jude didn't want Fiona crying (he was due for a nap). So here I am with two sobbing babies, one in each arm, try to figure out a way to calm them down. It seems they are past to point of regular methods like distraction, food or playing so I do what any sane mom would... turn on the TV. Trust me it's not my first choice but it worked. I turned on Yo Gabba Gabba and within a minute they were both quite and mesmerized.

While Fiona watched the show I put Jude down for his nap. Now I only have 1 baby who is happy to read and play with Jude's toys. After Jude awoke from his nap it was lunch time. Fiona used Jude's high chair and Jude sat in his booster seat. They had a good time eating and laughing at each other. After lunch it was time for Miss Fiona's nap, she was pretty sleepy. It was easy to get her to dose off but as soon as I'd lay her down she'd wake up but after the 3rd attempt it stuck. While she napped Jude did his regular thing and I ate my lunch (Joe came home for lunch to give me a little break). After nap we went to the park and they both had a great time chasing each other around and playing in the sand. We got back from the park and I was able to get Jude down for his second nap and Miss Fiona and I sat quietly on the couch reading. I think she would have fallen asleep but then her Daddy came to get her.

All-in-all we had a great day and it wasn't as hard as I imagined. I do have to give a big shout out to mothers of multiples. I think it's one think to have several children that are different ages but more than one the same age, everyday is a careful balancing act. I think I could do it but it requires alot of patience and planning.
